Phase 2 Update
Posted by: Site-Admin | 2,021 Views | 0 Comments | Friday, October 2nd, 2009
We just finished our phase 2 roll out that includes several improvements. Last week did the bulk of the back end updates, today we are launching all the front end improvements.
If you have not already noticed there are 2 specific changes that were made to your account, you now have 5 GB of daily bandwidth (150GB Per Month) and the max file size has been increased to 200 MB.
Several new features and tweaks have also been added, most noticeable is the all new design. Phase 1 had a tweaked design, this one is all new. You will notice right away that it is easier to navigate, faster, and looks a lot better. The design is fully compatible in all browsers.
The search has been refined, you will now notice a nice drop down that helps you refine your results as you are searching to better help you find the specific file you are looking for.
The public uploader has been added back and is much easier to use. Just select your file and start uploading. Its great for those files you need to get to a person real quickly and easily.
There are many more new features and options that we added between Phase 1 & 2 so be sure to check them all out, ranging from passworded files and folders, improved file manager, to quick look for images.
Thank you,

Site Slowness/Downtime/Errors
Posted by: Site-Admin | 3,482 Views | 0 Comments | Sunday, October 4th, 2009
Hello All, I wanted to give you a quick update on all the site slowness/downtime/errors you have seen over the past few days.
This was all caused by a specific user uploading about 25 images and then posting URL's to these images on chinas top porn sites. In turn each of the images got over 50,000 downloads in less then 2 hours. I discovered this and deleted all the offending images. But doing so caused a problem with extremely high server load.
Since a request for a image that is no longer on the server gets sent to a file not found page the resulting request is more CPU intensive then a request for a single image.
This caused our server load to go up to 1000, anyone who knows linux servers knows thats not good at all.
Over the past few days we have tried to solve the issue but noting was working, this morning I tried a new method and it appears to be working at the moment.
I am using a specific hot linking protection on only the offending domains and replacing the request with my own image.
I want to let everyone know in case you don't already know We do not allow PORN to be hosted in any way on our service. Any account that uploads porn will be banned and all images will be deleted. And the site where you are posting links will be added to our hot linking list.
Just in case anyone wants to know, the image we are using to replace offending URL's with it a picture of a fat women eating cake, so I don't think any site wants that on there site. If anyone is having problems now hot linking images please post the URL to your image in a comment.
Help us get a new feature working.

We need a little bit of your help getting a new feature working. We have a new script working fully we just have to make sure it works across a few devices.
So if you have one of the following devices:
RIM Blackberry
Palm Pre
Windows Mobile phone
Android device
Symbian S60
Samsung feature phones (Instinct, Solstice, etc.)
If you have one of the above devices/OS would please email test@veeapps.com and in the subject include what device you used to email on, and please include a small image attachment. We just need to see the header information, and how the attachment is formatted so we can be sure its compatible with our script and so no one has any problems. Thanks
