What's new May 2008

Hello all, welcome to what's May 2008 for uploadingit.com. Well yes I know its not may just yet, but its only a few days away and instead of waiting a few more days to give you all this new great stuff we decided to just go ahead and do it early. We have a lot of new great things for you all. Your probably don't remember but we re opened the site on January 25th 2008, and today is April 25th 2008, that means that we have been officially open for 3 full months, and this has been by far the best 3 months ever for uploadingit.com. We have set several records, the biggest of which is uptime, As of today the site has been up for 84 days straight with no downtime. Well lets get to all the new features.....

New Design: The biggest and most notable change of the site is the new design. We have been working hard the past 3 weeks, no only on new feature, but a complete overhaul of the design. We wanted to make it super easy to navigate, and we have done that. It also needed to be super clean and easy on the eyes, and we have also done that. All of the features are now super easy to get to. No going through pain full drop down menus so you can create a folder or make a flash slide show.Everything has its place, either in the top bar or side menu.

Flash Slide Show:  We have totally rewritten how the flash slide show behaves and performs. We have fixed several problems with it, and have added the ability to add background music. You can add music too it by simply taking the URL of a MP3 and placing it in the input box marked audio file. Your song will be added and played in the background.

Stats: Well some of you have asked for it, and we have delivered it. This is probably the best of all the new with this update. We added a stats page. Yes a stats page, it shows 17 stats, ranging from your total number of files uploaded, to your total forum posts, and just about everything in between. You can see how much bandwidth has been used in the past 7 days, 30 days, and all time, plus more. To view them, just login and click on simple stats on the top of the page. This is just the start, we are recording many more stats and will be adding them too the mix very soon.

Live Downloads Counter: This is another neat little thing so you and all new members can see how the site is doing. We added a live total file downloads counter too the top of the page, it shows in real time the number of downloads that have happened since we re opened on january 25th 2008. This is in no way a fictish number based on a average or something, it is pulled live from the database and updated using ajax.  Currently it is over 13 million total downloads. Which is really good for being open a little over 90 days.

Upload Spy: Watch live uploads as they happen. This is a neat little tool that shows all the live uploads happening on uploading.com No need to refresh the page they just appear on it. As always if you do not wish to have your files displayed on here you can remove your self from this list, and all other further tools like this. To do so, click on my account, and then user settings. Check the box that says "keep me private" and save the setting. Once saved you will be removed from the upload spy.

Progress Bar: We have gone in and completely overhauled the progress bar. You wanted it, it needed it, and now its done. We have fixed several bugs in the code to make it work a 100 times better, and have completely redesigned it to look and function more like the standard upload, but with all the features of the original progress bar. You can still upload up to 250 files at once, select more then one file at a time, and select more files while you are uploading.

Faster Site: There where several issues with the old version of the site, one of the biggest was the real slow performance. It was quite bad at times, well we have gotten that all fixed now. This is by far the fastest version of uploadingit.com ever. We made several back end and front end changes to the site to speed it up. You should have no problem seeing the difference.

Find Users Faster:  This is a small change but one that was needed. Instead of going to /info/username. You can now go to uploadingit.com/user/username

Updated profiles: There have been a few changes to the member profiles, we now have a place for you to show your AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and MSN screen names, and as well we have made it so, it will show your photo blog now inside your profile.

Updated My Files Page: The My Files page has been retooled. All of the old options are still there just in a more organized way. We added a whole new side bar that displays all your folders, options, and usage in a far cleaner and easier to read way. All folders now have icons next to the name to indicate weather they are public hidden or private. The controls menu has been simplified, we moved the "get linking codes" option out of the move files drop down, and to its own dedicated button. And now the move options are all under there own drop down.

We hope you enjoy all these changes we have made to the site. More changes and new features will be coming, as we focus on quality file hosting, not quantity....

Forum is Live!

We have added a new Member forum for all users to use. This will allow us to communicate directly too all of you, and allow you to communicate directly back to us very easily. Mainly for support, but for other means to.  As well allow you talk among other members. This will also be the place for us to find out what features you want us too put in place for you, to enable better sharing of your photos, & Images.

Unlike the old forums, these ones are completely integrated. Not only into the site design, but with your usernames as well. You do not have to register separately for the forum, just use your same uploadingit.com username to post your topics and replies.

Some Updates to Uploadingit.com

First welcome to the news section. This will be the place where all of the new upgrades and general news for uploadingit.com will be published. Lets get started.....

The first set of changes has been made to uploadingit.com and are now active on all accounts. You may have already noticed one, when you are logged in to your account the new home page is your profile page with a few extras. It will show your basic profile with some account usage information, and the most recent site news. All on one page.

A requested feature has been the ability too turn off your public profile. Too do this, go to "my account" and under "user preferences" un check "enable public profile" This will now disable your public profile so that no one can see it.
We have also added the ability to change your myfiles page from the gallery view to the original list view.  For those of you that want to do this, login and go to your myfiles page. Click "edit" next to view mode on the menu bar. Check the box next to "enable/disable list view" and save it. The page will refresh and your view mode will be changed. to change it back just do the same thing over again. This change will be permanent unless you change it. So if you login on another computer your account will still be set to list view.

We have also added back the flash slide show generator. To use this tool, click "Flash Slide Show" at the top of the page and follow the directions.
Keep your eye on the news box for more updates like this one. We have many new things in the works at the moment for you.
